Three Current and Eleven Past MSE Professors Featured in World’s Top 2% Scientists List | Stanford University Study

Three current and eleven past Materials Science and Engineering faculty members were ranked among the top 2% of the world’s most highly-cited scientists, according to a new study by researchers from Stanford University.

Mansoor BaratiUwe Erb and Harry Ruda were three of current MSE professors on the list. Past professors include C.B. AlcockS.A., G.E. Agar, ArgyropoulosK.T. AustS.N. FlengasA. McLeanM.R. PiggottR. PilliarJ.M. Toguri, T. UtigardZ.R. Wang.

“Having so many current and past MSE professors on this list speaks to the strong research impact of our department,” said Glenn Hibbard, Chair of MSE. “Through strategic partnerships with industry, were are translating these discoveries and innovations into new products, new technologies and new business ventures.”

The large database, created by Prof. John Ioannidis and his team, uses a composite indicator based on standardized citation metrics, including the number of citations, h-index and co-authorship. The study analyzed data from 1965 to 2019, covering ~ 7 million scientists in 22 major fields. Out of 100,000 scientists on the list, 919 were from the University of Toronto, including Christopher Yip, Dean, U of T Engineering.
