Micro-Credential Course: Semiconductor Fabrication & Inspection
New Micro-Credential Course: Semiconductor Fabrication and Inspection (Aug 18–21, 2025)
The Departments of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) and Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) are excited to offer a unique 4-day micro-credential course this summer, led by Prof. Jane Howe (MSE) and Prof. Wai Tung Ng (ECE).
This intensive, hands-on course is designed for graduate students, senior undergraduates, and industry professionals, and aligns with Canada’s national priorities in the rapidly growing semiconductor sector. Participants will engage in experiential learning at the Toronto Nanofabrication Centre (TNFC) and the Ontario Centre for the Characterization of Advanced Materials (OCCAM).
What You’ll Learn
By the end of the course, participants will gain:
- Practical experience in semiconductor fabrication techniques (deposition, lithography, etching)
- Skills in inspection and characterization methods using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and focused ion beam techniques (FIB-SEM)
- Familiarity with state-of-the-art equipment at TNFC and OCCAM
- Safety training in cleanroom and laboratory environments
