The Summer School for Advanced Fabrication and Characterization Techniques for Nanomaterials and Nanostructures

The Summer School for Advanced Fabrication and Characterization Techniques is a three-day event from June 25 to 27, 2024, in Toronto, Ontario, hosted by the University of Toronto and McGill University through the Open Center for the Characterization of Advanced Materials (OCCAM) and the Toronto Nanofabrication Centre (TNFC). This summer school is the second UofT–McGill Electron Microscopy Workshop. The first was at McGill in 2023.
Over the three days, participants can attend keynote talks from leading researchers showcasing the latest research trends on techniques and methodologies in electron microscopy and semiconductor processing, including electron tomography, electron holography, volume electron microscopy, photolithography, and multiple high-end deposition and plasma-etching systems.
On the first day, you’ll be introduced to various fabrication techniques. The second and third days will be an advanced workshop on the latest electron microscopy developments. But it’s not just about theory — you’ll also get hands-on experience. You’ll attend in-person demonstrations on semiconductor fabrication techniques such as sputtering, e-beam lithography, and etching at TNFC on Day 1. The fabricated structures will then be characterized using the electron microscopy equipment in OCCAM on Days 2 and 3.
Additionally, you’ll also acquire hands-on experience on the characterizations techniques for nanomaterials suitable for the construction of high-capacity batteries and Gallium Nitride (GaN) transistor structures. The school is suitable for new and experienced users and is structured to provide skills in electron microscopy and semiconductor processing techniques.
