Ethan Halpren

Ethan Halpren | MSE2T0 + PEY, MASc 2T3
Associate, Strategic Partnerships, Cyclic Materials

Alumnus Ethan Halpren is creating a circular supply chain for rare earth elements as part of the Strategic Partnerships team at Cyclic Materials. His role involves partnering with OEMs to recover pre-consumer and post-consumer streams of rare earth magnet-containing scrap. By creating innovative ways to recover this material, Ethan is contributing to the reshoring of the supply chain for these elements that are of utmost criticality.

Prior to joining Cyclic Materials, Ethan was an entrepreneur and master’s researcher on the topic of solid state hydrogen storage. During his master’s at UofT, Ethan was supervised by Professor Chandra Veer Singh and performed machine learning-assisted computational exploration to discover high entropy materials for hydrogen generation and storage. After graduating, he joined a pre-seed startup aiming to commercialize novel solid state hydrogen storage technology and decentralized hydrogen refueling infrastructure.

During his undergraduate studies in MSE and UofT, Ethan spent years directing the finances and communications of the MSE Club. He completed a PEY as a process engineer at CIBC, working in the department of Enterprise Process Management.
