Welcoming Dr. Sunmoon Yu – Our New Faculty Member in Green Energy

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sunmoon Yu will be joining our department as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Green Energy, starting August 2025.

Dr. Yu is currently a postdoctoral associate at MIT and earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, supported by the prestigious Samsung Scholarship. His research, recognized by the American Chemical Society’s Energy & Fuels Future Investigator award, focuses on the development of electroactive materials for electrochemical CO₂ capture, conversion, and the upgrading of abundant small molecules.

At his ECLIPSE Lab (Electrochemical Interfaces for Progress in Sustainability and Energy), Dr. Yu designs electroactive materials with atomic-level precision to support the green energy transition. His work combines fundamental electrochemistry with operando characterization and device-level testing, aiming to decarbonize the production of chemicals and materials using CO₂ and other small molecules found in waste streams.

We look forward to welcoming Dr.Yu in person next August!
