We are pleased to welcome Nick van den Brekel as an adjunct in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering. Nick will serve as an advisor for our nuclear initiatives and help deliver two new courses: MSE1074 and MSE1075 – AEMS Fundamentals I and II.
Nick is a recognized authority on life cycle management, fitness for service evaluation, and periodic inspection for CANDU nuclear power plants. He brings over 40 years of experience in fuel channel engineering, inspection, maintenance, codes and standards, and life cycle management. While working at a CANDU utility, Nick served as management lead and senior technical advisor for Fuel Channel Life Management and Life Extension projects, in addition to managing base engineering and R&D programs. He has chaired multiple industry committees, including the Candu Owners Group Fuel Channel Technical Committee, and is the emeritus chair of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) N285B Technical Committee.
Currently, Nick is Technical Director at Kinectrics, an international engineering and research company supporting the electric power industry.
