On August 28th, the Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) hosted its undergraduate Orientation for the 2025 cohort. This year's pool of students was the largest pool of talented students ever assembled in the department's history.
Our Department Chair, Prof. Hani Naguib, welcomed the students, saying: “ We are thrilled to have you join our community of curious, talented, and motivated students. We look forward to supporting your growth and celebrating your achievements throughout your time with us.”
The Orientation included presentations from MSE leadership and faculty, with Prof. Dai Hattrick providing an overview of first- and second-year programs, and Prof. Jane Howe introducing MSE120. Staff members Dan Grozea, Danny Bui, and Sherry Esfahani also presented to familiarize students with resources and opportunities in the department.
Additional presentations were provided by ISTEP (iLead), the PEY Office, the MSE Industry Club, and the MSE Student Club, offering insights into co-op opportunities, student engagement, and professional development.
The Orientation concluded with a lunch and student mixer, attended by Jason Joh, Barsam Rahimi, Andrew Liu, Alexis Kuri Garcia, Damita Sethi, Audrey Piguet, Salem Mehary, Christina Simpson, Sebastian Lee, and Jason Chen, along with staff Renee Slen (President, MSE Club), and Kyla Tan (President, Materials Industry Club). The mixer provided an opportunity for students to connect with peers and staff and build early connections within the MSE community.
