On October 27th, the Materials Industry Club, led by club president Kyla Tan, hosted a plant tour of Gerdau, one of Ontario’s leading steel manufacturing plants. Students explored both the melt shop and the rolling mill, seeing firsthand how recycled scrap steel is transformed into billets and rolled into rebar, channels, angles, and flat bars.
The tour offered valuable insight into large-scale industrial operations and career opportunities in the steel industry. Gerdau hires PEY (co-op) students from our department, giving students hands-on experience in this dynamic field.
