The University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering has required that applicants submit a Student Profile Form (SPF) as part of the admissions process for many years. The SPF allows applicants to tell us about their extra-curricular involvement, their program choices, their academic background and to write a brief essay.
In 2015, a new component has been added to the SPF, the Personal Profile.
Each applicant will be required to complete the Personal Profile as part of the application process. If they do not complete this portion of the application their file will not be evaluated for admission. The Personal Profile will take about 30 minutes for applicants to complete. The applicants will be given a set of 3 randomly selected questions (one written and two video) and a fixed amount of time to think about their response and then write/ record their response.
Question 1: You will record a two-minute video response (two minutes preparation)
Question 2: You will have 10 minutes to prepare and type a 250-word written response
Question 3: You will record a three-minute video response (three minutes preparation)

I do not have access to a computer with a video camera, what should I do?
We recommend that you first speak to your high school or a local library to determine if they have technology that meet the requirements for the Personal Profile. If this is not successful, please contact the Admissions Office and explain your situation. The Admissions Team will work with you to find a solution so that you can submit your video profile.
Who will be evaluating the videos?
The individuals who evaluate the videos are members of the University of Toronto community who have been specially selected and trained to ensure that all video profiles are fairly evaluated.

We understand that some students may be nervous on camera. Just be yourself on the camera, you will be assessed on the content of your answers.

The Faculty greatly values diversity within its student population and is committed to admitting the most highly-qualified applicants from around the world. The staff that will be evaluating the video profiles have been specially trained to assess the content of the applicant’s answers and how clearly these thoughts and ideas have been articulated. This assessment will not depend on cultural backgrounds or a person’s accent.
Does it matter where I shoot the Personal Profile?
The choice of location is up to you. We would recommend that you complete the Profile in a location that well-lit, is quiet and where you are not likely to be interrupted. Be aware of the background in the location you are shooting, it should be appropriate for the video profile.
What happens if my internet fails or the power goes out in the middle my submission?
If you experience technical challenges during the submission of your video, visit https://www.kiratalent.com/support/ or contact the Engineering Admissions Office. Note, that causing your computer to crash, or disconnecting your internet connection and requesting another chance to complete the video profile would be seen as unethical behaviour.
